Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Italian Pastry Bites In Multiple States

A Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Italian Pastry Bites Sold in Multiple States and Canada: What You Need to Know A salmonella outbreak in the United States and Canada has been linked to a batch of Italian pastry bites, according to a report by the FDA. Those delicious treats, sold under the Sweet Cream brand and distributed by Importations Piu Che Dolci, may have been contaminated with the bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

The recalled pastry bites were sold to two distributors with centers in Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, which then sold them to hotel cafes, restaurants, bakeries, caterers, and institutional customers. The recalled products were contained in boxed cases and 30-piece trays, with a "best by" date range of June 17, 2023, to November 15, 2025. According to a statement from the FDA... food service customers who received the recalled product have been notified directly by the distributing firms, "and the product should no longer be available for sale." Sales of the salmonella-contaminated pastry bites were discontinued as a precautionary measure.

The FDA's investigation into the outbreak revealed that an outbreak of salmonella enteritidis was reported in Canada... which led to the examination of batch numbers and the discovery of the contaminated product. The strain of salmonella under investigation in Canada matches the strain found in the recalled pastry bites.

Consumers are advised to check if they have received any of the recalled Sweet Cream pastry bites, "especially if they have served them to customers or consumers." Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water after handling any food and cooking food to the recommended internal temperature to minimize the risk of salmonella infection.
