Escambia, Santa Rosa host annual County Championship meets

Both the Booker T. Washington boys and West Florida girls swimming and diving teams claimed yet another Escambia County Championship.

The teams left little doubt as to who would take home the championship trophies from the Washington Aquatic Center on Thursday. The Wildcats placed first in 10 of 12 events, while the Jaguars claimed top spot in 11 of 12 events.

St. Johns County Fort Mose reconstruction project to receive additional $200,000 – 104.5 WOKV

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A project to reconstruct the 1738 version of Fort Mose at Fort Mose Historic State Park in St. Augustine received the green light for an additional $200,000.

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved the additional funding from Tourist Development Tax revenue. This follows the previously approved $50,000 grant match.

Man caught beating shark with hammer on Florida beach gets probation

Brian Zachary Wadill pleaded no contest to a second-degree count of violating state rules regarding the possession and harvesting of sharks. He was given 12 months probation in July.

As part of his probation, Wadill must make a $250 donation to the Brevard Zoo and is not allowed to fish during the 12-month period. He was also ordered to take a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation shore-based shark fishing course.
