Florida Receives Exciting News About Pitching Staff Ace

Image More details: See here

The Florida Gators baseball team had a rollercoaster season in 2025. Starting as early-season favorites to make a run to the College World Series, that notion quickly disappeared, as Florida started SEC play a measly 1-11. However, Florida completed an incredible turnaround, led in part by right-handed pitcher Liam Peterson.

The Gators ' year ended in regional play, as they finished with a 39-22 record overall and a .500 winning percentage in the conference.

On Wednesday, Baseball America revealed 2026 MLB Draft class rankings, labeling Peterson, who is the ace of Florida's rotation, as one of the top prospects in the country.

Peterson was given the nod as the No. 1 pitcher, No. 2 college player and No. 5 overall prospect in the draft class, Florida announced via social media.

The 6-foot-5 righty from Palm Harbor, Florida, will be a junior next season, deeming him eligible for the draft for the first time since joining the Gators. In 2024, Peterson was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and had an even better year this past season.

The flamethrower made 16 appearances and 15 starts as a sophomore, going 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA. He struck out a team-high 96 batters in 69 1/3 innings with 32 walks.

He also held opposing hitters to a .250 batting average, which is the best mark during his time in Gainesville.

Peterson features a fastball in the mid-to-high 90s, a sharp-breaking slider, a high-80s changeup and a curveball that he rarely uses.

If he were to be drafted in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft, Peterson would become the first Florida pitcher to go that high since Hurston Waldrep went to the Atlanta Braves with the 24th overall pick in 2023.

With his physical makeup and athletic tools, Peterson promises to be a big name for the Gators next season and one to look out for at the draft next summer.

Vero Beach Vice Mayor Defies Backlash, Vows To Continue Hosting Drag Events At Kilted Mermaid Bar

In the face of adversity, Vice Mayor Linda Moore --- resolute in her decision to continue hosting drag events at her popular bar, Kilted Mermaid, in Vero Beach. This determination comes on the heels of a recent backlash sparked by her "Pride Tea Dance" event in June, which drew criticism despite being billed as an "all ages welcome" gathering. According to Moore, the event was carefully structured to cater to a diverse audience, with an initial family-friendly segment followed by an adults-only portion. She emphasized that the performances were far from risqué, describing them as a comedic show featuring fake, theatrical elements.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier subpoenaed Moore and the Kilted Mermaid on July 8, requesting a range of materials... including records and a video recording of the performance. In response, Moore has engaged an attorney to guide her through the investigation and advise on whether to comply with the subpoena.

More Parents Support Screen Time Limits For Kids, Study Shows As New Florida Law Takes Effect | FO...

Image Read more: Found here

As a new Florida law restricting the use of cellphones in schools takes effect, research shows many parents support limiting kids' screen time. FOX 13's Regina Gonzalez reports.

Additionally, 84% believe phones are causing real problems in schools, especially when it comes to distraction, anxiety, and even loneliness.

The survey also showed 56% of parents support either a ⁘bell-to-bell⁘ phone-free policy or a full ban on cellphones in schools.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 1105, a broad education bill that took effect July 1, which includes a ban on cellphones during the entire school day for elementary and middle school students.

Critics, however, argued that students need to be able to quickly get in touch with their families in case of an emergency.

School districts are working to figure out how to enforce the new rules this coming school year ⁘ whether that means locking phones away, collecting them in cubbies, or creating new policies around technology usage in class.

Jake Clemente's Bullpen Breakout: A Key Factor In Florida Gators' 2025 Turnaround

Image

The Florida Gators baseball team experienced a remarkable turnaround during the 2025 season, transforming from a struggling squad to a postseason contender. A key factor in this resurgence was the strategic decision by head coach Kevin O'Sullivan to transition right-hander Jake Clemente from a weekend starter to a full-time closer. Clemente's impressive performance in his new role earned him an All-SEC Second Team selection.

However, this success came with a bittersweet twist, as Clemente has signed a contract with the Miami Marlins, forgoing his eligibility to return to the Gators. The Marlins, who selected Clemente in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft, agreed to a $500,000 contract, significantly exceeding the slot value for the No. 198 pick.

Clemente's transformation was nothing short of phenomenal. Initially struggling as a starter, he found his groove in the bullpen... surrendering just five earned runs in 31 innings while striking out 45 batters and logging seven saves. His arsenal, which includes a fastball touching 99 mph, "a wipeout slider," "and an impressive changeup.".. made him a formidable force on the mound.

The Florida Gators baseball team had one of the best turnarounds in the country during the 2025 season. The Gators were victorious just once in their first 12 SEC games before a miraculous reversal, finishing with a conference record of 15-15, resulting in a trip to the NCAA postseason. One of the biggest reasons head coach Kevin O'Sullivan and Florida were able to turn their season around was the move from weekend starter to full-time closer of right-hander Jake Clemente.

Over time, iguanas have evolved to adapt to various environments, developing unique characteristics that enable them to thrive in diverse habitats.

In recent years, however, iguanas have become a topic of concern due to their invasive nature in certain regions, particularly in Florida. The warm and subtropical climate of the state has created an ideal environment for these reptiles to flourish, leading to a significant increase in their population. As a result, iguanas have been causing significant ecological and economic impacts, including damaging infrastructure, gardens, and native ecosystems.
