Florida Lawmakers Refile Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Bill DeSantis Vetoed

"I believe in this bill, and I believe that what we are doing is right," bill sponsor Dana Trabulsy, R-Fort Pierce, said. "We pay the highest malpractice rates in the country," Borom said. "If your goal is to just throw another golden bone to the trial lawyers, you can feel free to do that.

But if you want physicians who are well-trained and well-experienced to stay here in Florida, and take care of you and your patients, you need to reconsider this." House leaders have made a priority of repealing the law. The House and Senate passed a repeal bill (HB 6017) during the 2025 legislative session, but DeSantis vetoed it in May, saying the change could "open floodgates" for litigation.

Though the bill passed by large margins in the House and Senate , lawmakers did not try to override DeSantis' veto. "I would have loved to have done that," Trabulsy, who also sponsored the 2025 bill, said after Wednesday's meeting. "But I don't get to make that decision." O And La Niña Impact Florida Weather And Travel Plans

Image
Featured in _____:

As travelers plan their Florida vacations, they should be aware of the potential impact of El Niño and La Niña on the state's weather. Florida, renowned for its picturesque beach towns and unique parks, is a popular destination, especially during its peak season from mid-December to April. However, the presence of these two natural phenomena can significantly alter the weather.

El Niño and La Niña are part of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), a climate cycle originating in the Pacific that affects global weather patterns. Each event typically lasts between nine and 12 months, with the first signs of a shift appearing in the spring and reaching peak activity in autumn or winter.

A visit to Florida during El Niño may not drastically impact one's experience. In fact, the warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Pacific and altered wind shear can make it more difficult for hurricanes to form in the Atlantic. This could mean that hurricanes are more likely to be pushed away from Florida, providing a relatively safer travel experience, especially for those planning to visit during the September to November shoulder season.

However, El Niño is not without its drawbacks. Florida has reported colder and wetter winters, and although hurricanes are less likely, thunderstorms can be more frequent during this time.

Florida has everything for the ultimate vacation, from beach towns that rival the Caribbean to one-of-a-kind parks with dazzling underground caverns...

More Than A Hotel For Conventions And Meetings

There's something magical about escaping the everyday for a weekend of laughter and friendship, and my stay at Hilton Orlando with my bestie Marissa was exactly that. After wrapping up a busy week of teaching and writing, I arrived late on a Friday night, tired but instantly welcomed by the kind and lively front desk staff.

We struck up a conversation about my Star Wars tattoos, traded stories about collectibles, and even bonded over our mutual love of the trendy and scary monster toy trend, Labubus. So yes, even the check-in felt like a moment of chatting with friends that revitalized me after my journey on the Brightline from Boca Raton to Orlando.

After such a long trek from South Florida, I was ready to exhale.
And the Hilton Orlando made that moment of arrival feel like a small celebration. The lobby glowed softly, filled with the hum of gentle conversation and the comforting scent of fresh coffee and food from the 24-hour market nearby. I grabbed a chilled bottle of wine, a few snacks, and made my way up to my newly renovated double queen guest room overlooking the resort's lush, tropical grounds and pool.

What awaited me inside stopped me in my tracks. It was a beautiful birthday cake, waiting just for me, with the Florida Atlantic University logo, where I also teach. I immediate called my husband and excitedly told him how welcome I felt from that first moment that I got into my room. My birthday wasn't for a few more weeks, but the thoughtful surprise instantly made me feel seen, special, and right at home.

I kicked off my shoes, slipped into my pajamas, and popped on a ⁘Snow White⁘ face mask (because who says self-care can't have a little Disney flair?). I poured myself a glass of wine, curled up in the ultra-comfortable Hilton bed, and put on ⁘K-Pop Demon Hunters,⁘ streaming straight from my own Netflix account thanks to the room's smart TV connection.

That night was quiet, cozy, and perfect—a rare kind of peace that only comes when you're traveling solo but surrounded by kindness. Other related sources and context: See here

No Kings Protest Near Me In Naples, Florida. What To Know

Organizers told USA TODAY they believe it will be the largest single day of protest in modern American history. "If you're not scared, you're not paying attention. These folks are serious. "They fear more than anything one thing, which is the mass, peaceful, organized population pushing back against their unpopular designs on the system." Florida also comes down hard on anything perceived as rioting , with penalties against anyone involved in the protest where it occurred.. The  "No Kings" website  tells participants not to bring any weapons, to always act in accordance with local laws, and de-escalate any potential confrontation with law enforcement or anti-protesters.

Florida Bill Sparks Debate Over Renaming Campus Roads And State Funding

A contentious bill has ignited debate across Florida's public colleges, threatening state funding for institutions that refuse to comply. The proposed legislation mandates that specific roads on college campuses be renamed in honor of Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator and activist. At Florida Atlantic University, Indian River State College, and Palm Beach State College, student leaders are voicing their concerns.

Ostheimer, a student leader at Florida Atlantic University, expressed apprehension about the coercive nature of the bill. "If the universities and their students wanted to do it, they could do it by themselves," Ostheimer stated. "But the state is forcing this measure on every public college." According to WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm, the bill lists all the roads that should be renamed in the state.

This move has sparked intense discussion, with many questioning the state's authority to dictate campus nomenclature. The proposed bill has raised questions about academic freedom and the role of government in educational institutions. As student leaders and administrators navigate this complex issue, one thing is clear: the fate of state funding hangs in the balance.
