UF women's basketball signs NIL deal with Gators Collective

The University of Florida's women's basketball team spent some time away from the hardwood on Tuesday night as it was treated to dinner at Spurrier's Gridiron Grille at Celebration Pointe.

Thanks to a partnership between the Gators Collective, Wally Smojver and Jeff Nudelman, CEO of Stuart Building Products, each eligible player on Kelly Rae Finley's roster was given a Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deal worth $1,000 for the 2022-23 basketball season.

Florida Gators gymnasts edge Auburn Tigers in star-studded SEC tilt

Florida gymnastics head coach Jenny Rowland echoed the words of Michael Scott of the TV show " The Office" following the second-ranked Gators' big win over the No. 5 Auburn Tigers from Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Friday night.

As fate would have it, the Gators and the Tigers met on Friday the 13th. But Rowland says the No. 13 has always been lucky for her. And evidently, that luck transferred over to her team as the Gators topped the Tigers 197.825 to 197.200, improving Florida to 4-0 (1-0 SEC).

Disney Announces Return of Half Marathons In Anaheim, Orlando

Disney officials announced last week they will be bringing back their half-marathon to its parks in California and Florida next year after a seven-year hiatus.

Thousands of collector cars up for bid at Kissimmee auction

KISSIMMEE, Fla – Mecum Auctions, one of the world's largest collector car auction companies in the world, has consigned more than 4,200 cars for this year's Mecum Kissimmee 2023 event.

According to David Morton, manager of communications and event marketing at Mecum, the company's first auction in Kissimmee, way back in 2004, had a mere 400 cars up for bid and generated $4 million in sales.

New COVID variant fueling cases across Florida

A new COVID variant has made its way to Florida, pushing case numbers higher and leading health experts to say the most transmissible version yet is certain to infect even those who have had the virus.

For the week ending Jan. 5, Florida reported 31,633 new cases, according to state health data, which includes only cases confirmed by PCR tests. Most people use at-home tests. The week prior to Thanksgiving, Florida reported only 12,150 cases.

Seminole Tribe Breaks Ground on New Brighton Hotel Casino

The project will replace the existing Seminole Casino Brighton, which has been operating three miles to the south of the new development since 1980. The tribe said in a news release it expects to complete the project in late 2024.

The new casino will house 38,000 square feet of gaming floor with 623 slot machines and 18 tables for blackjack and baccarat, as well as several restaurants and eateries.
