Homeowner Receives Shockingly High Water Bill Despite No Running Water

Image

Flooded Homeowner Receives Surprising Water Bill from City A Tampa Bay resident is facing an unexpected bill from the city of Tampa Bay after discovering that his flooded home had no water supply during the storm. According to homeowner Jack Clearly, the main water valve was turned off before the storm, rendering his home uninhabitable.

(Source: firstcoastnews. com) When Clearly received his latest water bill, he was shocked to see a charge of $750 for 22,700 gallons used in the month of the storm. Despite the obvious issue with his home's water supply, Clearly has struggled to reach the city's billing department for answers. He called the city multiple times, only to be disconnected after lengthy wait times.

"I called half of the day, twice, both times lasted two hours, two and a half hours," Clearley reported. "And you time out... you get hung up on. There's no one that actually answers the phone." (Source: firstcoastnews. com) However, 10 Tampa Bay was able to reach the city for an explanation. A spokesperson stated that the billing department is working overtime to address the concerns of homeowners like Clearly, who may not have been able to note the exact amount of water used during the storm.

"The billing department is estimating water usage based on the past three months, in case the meter was damaged or covered by debris," the spokesperson explained. However... it is acknowledged that this estimate may be inaccurate and could lead to higher water bills in the future once the meter can be accurately read.

While the city has provided some clarity on the billing process, "Clearly --- skeptical." "I have a hard time believing that estimation can come to 22,000 gallons," he said. "I plan to hire a leak detection service to scan for any leaks, "including the water line that connects to the city pipes."" (Source: firstcoastnews.

Freezing Temperatures Cause Widespread Gridlocks On I-10 In North Florida

Floridaputies affected by freezing Temperatures on I-10 Highway The Florida Department of Transportation issued State Blizzard Warning on January 23, as freezing temperatures hit the Panhandle, leaving many motorists stranded on the roads. The cold weather, as predicted, brought hazardous conditions to several highways, particularly Interstate 10, where almost 200 miles of the highway remained closed due to snow and ice that melted overnight.

On Wednesday night, the FDOT posted that a significant portion of I-10 was shut down in both directions starting from 7 p. m., citing the remaining snow, ice, "and water on the roadways that combined to create icy and hazardous conditions on bridges." The agency advised motorists to seek alternative routes for their safety... as conditions were rapidly changing and unforeseen circumstances were emerging.

As temperatures began to thaw after an overnight freeze... FDOT crews reported that snowplows were working tirelessly to clear the remaining snow and ice from travel lanes and shoulders on I-10 in northwest Florida. The agency expressed gratitude to its crews for their non-stop efforts to restore conditions on the vital corridor.

Law enforcement officials reported that other sections of the road have been shutdown in the Gadsden and Leon counties. Troopers in the area indicated that all of State Road 20 is currently iced out and their navigation is being directed to save everyone's safety. Water would be necessary to finally eradicate complications on the roads.

The Panhandle refers to the northeastern region of Florida, commonly known as the Panhandle is situated on the Atlantic coast of the state. The region has a rich history that dates back to the early 18th century, when it was inhabited by various Native American tribes. During this time, the Panhandle was a strategic location for settlers from the southern colonies.

In 1821, the United States government established the Florida Territory, and in 1845, it became a state and was officially admitted to the union. The Panhandle played a significant role in the American Civil War, with several key battles fought in the area. The most notable battle was the Battle of Olustee, also known as the Second Seminole War, "which took place in 1865." After the war... the Panhandle continued to grow and develop into the prosperous agricultural industry it is known for today.

The construction of Interstate 10 and other highways in the 1950s and 1960s further boosted economic growth in the region.

Tom Brady And Mike Tyson's $13 Million Home Purchases In Florida

The Sunshine State continues to attract high-profile celebrities and sports icons in a reported $13 million home purchase in the Delray Beach area by former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson. This latest addition to the state's roster of "goats" (greatest of all time) in their respective sports only fuels the trend.

One of the state's most iconic athletes, Tom Brady, 47, has also made headlines for his extensive home buying endeavors. According to Yahoo Sports, Brady's impressive resume boasts 23 seasons of dominance, with seven Super Bowl wins, including six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The football legend, widely regarded as the greatest quarterback, possibly even the greatest football player, of all time, initially called New England home for nearly two decades before relocating to Florida in 2020 with his then-wife... supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Their departure was marked by Brady's highly publicized retirement in February 2022, only to "unretire" just six weeks later to complete one more season with Tampa Bay. The power couple's marital status took an aggressive turn when they announced their divorce in the months following Brady's brief retirement run. Ultimately, Brady solidified his commitment to retirement by announcing his second, and likely final, "retirement on February 1," "2023." As if Tampa and Floridian prestige could not be confirmed... Mike Tyson's significant home purchase joining the roster of top sports idols in the state underscores the Sunshine State's reputation as a realm where top athletes and icons collect their lucrative properties.

Florida Homeowner Fights Community Fence Repair Cost In Property Tax Dispute

Homeowner faces costly dilemma in Florida community A homeowner in a South Park III community in Florida is being told she was responsible for repairing a community park fence that falls within the boundaries of her property. According to Sirrita Rubiano, the fencing contractor told her that the fence may be the property of the Community Development District (CDD), not hers.

Details of the situation remain unclear, but Rubiano believes the fence was installed without her knowledge or consent and now requires significant repairs after a recent storm. The destruction of the fence has left her facing a substantial bill, which she does not feel she should have to pay. "I'm not responsible for the fence," Rubiano stated.

"I didn't put this fence up, I didn't request the fence... I didn't have the opportunity to say I didn't want the fence. It was the Community Development District's responsibility to maintain this fence." As a homeowner in a community governed by a CDD, Rubiano pays more than $2,000 in property taxes annually, with the district's annual budget of $1. 3 million for maintaining community infrastructure and services.

The dispute highlights the complexities of community governance and the shared costs of community maintenance. Yahoo News reports that CDDs are a common occurrence in Florida, providing essential services to residents such as water management and recreational facilities. However, "the financial responsibilities that come with these districts can be unclear.".. leaving homeowners like Rubiano in a difficult position.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication and understanding in community governance. Ensuring that homeowners are aware of the responsibilities and costs associated with CDD services is crucial in preventing such disputes from arising. For more in-depth coverage of community governance and property issues, "refer to Yahoo News."

Matthew Higgins is the executive director of the association. He declined requests for an interview due to an open records lawsuit filed by the Tampa Bay Times for maternity home inspection reports. Instead, the association performs its own inspections, holding its members to standards for hiring staff that government records show to be less rigorous than those used by the state. Rare Winter Storm Brings Frigid Temperatures And Snow To North Florida

Rare Winter Storm Brings Frigid Temperatures, Snow to North Florida and the Panhandle A rare and intense winter storm swept over North Florida and the Panhandle on Tuesday, bringing frigid temperatures, layers of ice, and even snow to millions of residents. The storm, which had been predicted by state officials, led to hundreds of closures and travel disruptions across the state, leaving many scrambling to cope with the unexpected weather conditions.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency on Sunday in anticipation of the storm, warning residents of the potential threats posed by the severe weather. Cities such as Pensacola and Milton broke records for snowfall, with some areas receiving as much as 6 inches or more of the white stuff. According to the Florida State University's Climate Center, winter weather in Florida typically lasts from December to February... with December and January often being the coldest months.

However, the cold temperatures were unprecedented in this region, with measurements as low as 20 degrees recorded in some areas. As Floridians grapple with the aftermath of the storm, many are now turning their attention to the upcoming summer season. While it is still too early to predict with certainty what the summer months will bring, forecasters at the Old Farmer's Almanac are predicting that Florida will experience warmer and drier conditions in the north... while the south will be cooler and wetter.

The temperatures are expected to reach their peak in early July and mid-August, which may lead to an increased risk of tropical storms in these months. As Florida is known for its sunny weather, with an average of 230-250 sunny days per year, many residents are eager to take advantage of the good weather when it arrives.

As one resident noted, "It's ironic that we're seeing snow in Florida during the winter, when it's usually part of the spring or fall." This unusual weather pattern is a stark reminder of the ever-changing climate in which we ---. For more information on the weather and climate in Florida, "US citizens can turn to reputable sources such as USA TODAY," "which provides up-to-date news and forecasts on the Sunshine State's weather and climate trends."

According to a report by Gators Wire, Cam Smith, a multiple-time All-SEC selection who was a standout performer last season, will return from injury and ready to pad his statistics in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the team's defensive unit, led by linemen Tyreak Sapp and Caleb Banks, "have been revitalized after a mid-season slump.".. and are poised to make a significant impact in 2025. Terrestrial Splendor: Torreya State Park Preserves Historic Tree In Florida

Information column from _____:

Torreya State Park was created by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and opened to the public in 1933. It is named after the rare, endangered torreya tree found only on the high bluffs along the Apalachicola River. The CCC, a work relief program established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, aimed to provide jobs during the Great Depression.

Over 300 men from across the country trained at the park between 1933 and 1939. The torreya tree, native to the Southeastern United States, was on the brink of extinction before the National Park System recognized its significance. The tree was declared a state tree of Florida in 1946, "and its protection is now managed by the state's forestry division." Preservation efforts have helped the tree recover... and the torreya tree --- an iconic landmark and natural wonder.

A hotel owner in the tourist district of Orlando, Florida has reached an agreement with the U.S. Justice Department over a discrimination lawsuit filed against the resort after it canceled a planned conference for an Arab American group in the aftermath of Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

In the complaint filed Thursday, the DOJ accused AWH Orlando Property, the owner of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Orlando at SeaWorld, of discrimination on the basis of national origin when it canceled hosting an annual summit held by the Arab America Foundation in November 2023.

The DOJ said there had been no threats or specific risks to the hotel in connection with the summit and that there was not any other non-discriminatory reason to cancel the meeting for the Arab American cultural and educational group.

LSU's Rising Star Aneesah Morrow Shines In Basketball Dominance Quickly

A slow start was not an issues in Gainesville against Florida. No. 4 LSU opened the game with a 7-0 run before opening the second quarter on a 14-1 run and outscored the Gators , 16-5 to help it stretch things out.

Some things that Kim Mulkey's thrives on didn't go the Tigers' way but adjustments made by Mulkey throughout the game paved the way for those crucial runs. LSU defeated the Gators, 80-63, in its final tune up before traveling to take on No. 2 South Carolina this coming Thursday.

Sophomore sensation Mikaylah Williams paced LSU with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Aneesah Morrow collected her 18th double-double of the season with 20 points, 10 boards. It was the 92nd of her career, which ties her for second all-time with Oregon's Jillian Alleyne.

ANEESAH MORROW FEATURE 'She's a monster': How LSU star Aneesah Morrow has etched her name in the record books

LSU took care of ball at Florida, turning it over just nine times. The extended possessions and the extra ones, LSU forced 23 turnovers, allowed it to build a slow, matriculating methodical blowout win.

Aneesah Morrow and point guard Shayeann Day-Wilson have struggled with turnovers the last four games but against the Gators, who have turned teams over this season, they were clean.

With Kyle, Florida had a distinct size advantage over LSU star Aneesah Morrow and the couple of inches caused the Tigers fits inside for much of the game. Since Mulkey has taken over LSU, the program built its identity on dominating on the glass.

How the Gators easily asserted their size -- finishing the game winning the rebounding edge, 43 to 38, and leaned in on LSU poses some concern for when teams can rely on their size.
