Woman Hit by Truck While Sitting on Beach in Daytona Beach Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office responded to a traffic accident on the beach in Daytona Beach on Tuesday. The accident occurred around 2:43 p. m. near the Silver Beach Avenue Beach ramp, where a 71-year-old woman from New York was struck by a vehicle.
According to the sheriff's office, the woman was sitting in a beach chair when a Chevrolet Colorado pulled out of her parking spot and turned onto the beach exit without seeing her. The truck's right rear tire ran over her head, causing serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle, an 84-year-old woman from Central Florida, remained on the scene and cooperated with responding deputies.
The driver claimed she did not realize she had hit the woman until a witness intervened... prompting her to stop the truck and report the incident to authorities. The witness's account of the event was corroborated by the sheriff's report, "which stated there were no signs of impairment on the part of the driver." The 71-year-old woman was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment, "where she is expected to make a full recovery." The incident is currently under investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office... with initial details yet to be fully released.
