Florida Hotel Fire Coverage

Fire Ignites at Hotel in Miami Beach, Displaces Guests A fire broke out at the RiU Florida Beach Hotel in Miami Beach on Tuesday, prompting an evacuation of the entire hotel, according to officials. Firefighters and police were quickly responded to the scene, where they successfully extinguished the blaze, but not before it caused significant damage to flooring, walls, and multiple rooms.

According to authorities, the fire was reportedly caused by an individual who was assigned to work on the seventh floor of the hotel at the time of the incident. Surveillance video showed the individual, Orlando Castillo-Chiong, 34, handling and igniting bedsheets twice before walking towards the area that sustained the most damage.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic... with guests being escorted to safety by emergency responders. Authorities confirmed that the hotel manager and Castillo's supervisor identified him on the video and identified his actions as unauthorized, as he was not permitted to work with fire. "It's unacceptable behavior that any individual would attempt to start a fire, and it's a miracle that no one was injured," said an investigator.

"We take incidents like this very seriously and will be pursuing charges accordingly." Castillo's clothing was collected as evidence and is currently being held for further analysis. The investigation is ongoing... with authorities working to determine the full extent of the damages and the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The RiU Florida Beach Hotel, a popular tourist destination, has issued a statement apologizing for the disruption and assuring guests that the hotel will work to resolve the issue as soon as possible. The hotel's staff is also cooperating fully with the investigation. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following safety protocols and regulations in the workplace, "particularly in situations involving fire." The motive behind the attempted arson is under investigation, "and Castillo is currently facing charges related to the incident."

Head Coach Mike Norvell's Pursuit of Xavier Griffin Puts North Carolina State in Proximity to Securing Iconic Recruit Coach Mike Norvell has been aggressively courting Xavier Griffin, a five-star linebacker from Georgia, according to a report by FSU Seminoles On SI. Since committing to USC in July, Griffin has maintained a strong interest in the Trojans while still entertaining suitors from nearby programs, including Tennessee, as of currently.

Griffin's comp Casa visit to Florida State took place earlier this month, as the St. Thomas Aquinas product eyed furthering his academic and athletic pursuits. A close look at NCAA recruiting metrics reveals that Griffin, measuring 6-foot-3 and weighing 200 pounds, is regarded as the No. 8 overall prospect, "No." 1 Light... and No. 1 in Georgia for the 2026 cycle by 247Sports.

Florida State's efforts to secure Griffin are already elevated by the presence of Coach Norvell, whose attendance at both Griffin's junior day and potential subsequent official visits could aid in tying up the loose ends of the recruitment. The North Carolina State program currently ranks No. 10 nationally in terms of verbal commitments... including that of Griffin's teammate - courtesy of FSU Seminoles On SI.

Eight-story Tower Project Sparks Controversy And Local Funding Concerns Again

The project, which aims to convert a portion of the existing structure into a new eight-story tower, received approval from Commissioners Karen Marriott and Betty Rzewnicki, but not Mayor Adrian Petrila and Commissioner Lisa Robinson, who expressed concerns about the building's compliance with the city's comprehensive plan and FEMA regulations.

According to Kevin Bowden, managing partner of Miramar Beach Resort, the new tower will feature 30 rooms, a rooftop restaurant, and will be the first new hotel space in St. Pete Beach since Hotel Zamora opened in 2014. However, the project has not been without controversy... with Mayor Petrila and Commissioner Robinson citing a lack of additional financial contributions from the resort to address the city's budget shortfalls.

The crisis facing the city includes a $25 million sewer system repair bill that will need to be addressed over the next five years, as well as ongoing costs of $770,000 annually to operate the Freebee service, "a popular transportation hub in St." Pete Beach. At the meeting, Commissioner Moholland expressed frustration with the resort's decision not to provide additional funding to help alleviate these expenses, "stating," "There was no contribution for Freebee or intermodal or anything to help with the sewer... You folks have made your position on that clear." Baynews9. com reported that the proposal underwent a lengthy public discussion before the commission voted on the matter... and it is unclear what the long-term implications of the decision will be for the city and the residents of St. Pete Beach.

Kevin Bowden, a managing partner of the Miramar Beach Resort, is the key figure associated with the development project. He is responsible for receiving approval and conveying the project's potential benefits to the community. Bowden has exhibited leadership skills, as he is willing to invest in a new project and ensure its economic benefits for the city.

However... his reluctance to contribute to the city's budget shortfalls may raise concerns about his commitment to the community's well-being.

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. — The owners of the Miramar Beach Resort narrowly received approval from the St. Pete Beach city commission earlier this month to renovate a portion of the existing hotel and build a new eight-story tower. Revolutionary Breakthrough: Genetically Engineered Fruits As COVID-19 Vaccine Carriers Emerges

Image

Researchers have been exploring the use of genetic engineering to modify common fruits and vegetables to deliver vaccine material since several years ago. This research has the potential to overcome the constraints associated with traditional vaccines, such as refrigeration requirements. Plant-based edible vaccines have the potential to be produced at a lower cost and be more widely available, particularly in rural communities or developing countries.

This could be a significant benefit... especially in regions where access to funding for refrigerated storage and transportation of traditional vaccines may be limited.

A Florida bill has been filed would require foods genetic engineered to contain vaccines "or vaccine material" to be labeled as such. The bill would seem a premptive strike at a growing industry . No edible vaccines are approved for use in the U.S., but research modifying common fruits and vegetables to delivery vaccine material goes back several years.
