Downtown Orlando's Immerse festival won't happen this year

One of Orlando's signature festivals isn't happening this year as the presenter regroups for the future. Creative City Project's Immerse, which has transformed downtown for a weekend each fall since 2012, is "taking a pause," said executive director Heide Evans.

Immerse is one of Central Florida's most high-profile festivals as it annually brings thousands of people to experience concerts, dance performances and colorful art installations throughout the streets of downtown.

Maine Lobster Festival returns with plenty of crustaceans for eager visitors

ROCKLAND, Maine — With the deep blue harbor behind her and a bright red lobster on a plate in front of her, Mia Saunier of Ocala, Florida, looked happy Thursday afternoon at the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland.

That put her in good company. The second day of the festival, celebrating its 75th year,  featured lots of smiling people eating thousands of pounds of Maine's official state crustacean, all of which were hauled from the cold waters of Penobscot Bay.

Nine Brevard sports grants approved, ranging from soccer to surfing

Brevard County will help fund nine Space Coast sports events — including running events, a softball camp, golf and soccer tournaments, and a multisport "Beach 'n Boards Fest" — during the first half of the 2022-23 budget year.

County commissioners approved the grants in a 3-1 vote, after the funding received unanimous support from the Brevard County Tourist Development Council and its Sports Committee. County Commissioner John Tobia voted no on the grants.
