Florida Theme Park Ignores Eviction, Could Stay Open Until 2044

Miami Seaquarium, a marine park located in Miami, Florida, has been embroiled in a controversy surrounding its closure. The park, which has been operating with a federal license issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has insisted that it has the right to remain open until 2044. This comes after years of critical inspection reports from the USDA, which have repeatedly called out the park for failing to provide its animals with satisfactory levels of care.

In a statement, the park's management claimed that they had sought several meetings with the Mayor and her office but were denied the opportunity to defend themselves. They also claimed that"... fair treatment and due process" are owed not just to the park but its residents as well. The park's staff, who are deeply committed to the welfare of the animals under their care... have been unfairly placed in an uncomfortable position due to unexpected statements and actions from Miami-Dade County, the statement read.

The park added that it is operating with a federal license issued by the USDA... affirming its strict compliance with animal welfare standards.

In South Florida, soccer is popular, but it is also expensive, and not every family can afford the cost for their kids to play.

Gomez Laleau, president and founder of Little Haiti Football Club: "We serve everyone, whether if you can, whether if you cannot."

He knew the sport kept his players focused while school was in session, but during the summer, many of them had nothing positive to do.

Gomez Laleau: "There used to be a lot of crime, and the crime was rampant, and that's one of the things. The dropout rate was also rampant."

While most players have to foot the cost that comes with joining a club, Little Haiti Football Club is free.

Gomez Laleau: "It was really, I would say, a great idea to bring something like that to a community which they don't play nothing else but soccer. But they couldn't play it because of lack of money."

She wanted them to get involved in after-school activities, but she knew the cost would break the bank.

Why New Smyrna Beach Residents Claim There Was An Explosion

On Wednesday, a large, mushroom-shaped cloud of smoke was spotted near New Smyrna Beach, leading some beachgoers to believe that an explosion had occurred near the beach. However, officials from the beach have clarified that the strange cloud was actually from a controlled burn that took place miles away from the beach.

When residents and beachgoers saw the large cloud of smoke, some took to social media to express their concerns. One user wrote "explosion reported," but New Smyrna Beach Fire Chief Shawn VanDemark assured the public that there were"... no reports of explosion that I'm aware of."

According to the Florida Department of Agriculture... a prescribed burn is defined as the controlled application of fire by a team of fire experts under specified weather conditions.

These fires are done under controlled conditions after careful planning to minimize the risk of damage to property and the environment. The controlled burn was conducted by a team of fire experts who carefully planned and executed the operation to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.

Despite the initial confusion... the controlled burn was a necessary measure to help manage the vegetation in the area.

In Florida, prisoners are charged $50 for every day of their original sentence—meaning they keep getting charged, even if they are released early. When former inmates inevitably fail to pay this massive bill, it can prevent them from ever moving on from their period spent behind bars. According to the Guardian, a sperm whale that was found stranded in Florida was considered severely underweight and struggling to survive, weighing between 50,000 and 70,000 pounds. Laura Engleby, branch chief of the marine mammal division at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), told local news outlet WTVT that it is uncommon for sperm whales to strand in this area.

As listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, sperm whales face a range of threats, including collisions with water vessels, entanglement with fishing gear, ocean noise, marine debris, oil spills, and contaminants. The warming of the planet can impact whale migration, feeding, and breeding. While rare in this region, approximately 2,000 strandings like this occur annually.
