A recently reported data security event at the Ocala-based Surgery Center of Mid Florida has sparked concerns about patient information. According to an official notice on the center's website, the incident was discovered on or about February 21, when unusual activity was observed on its networks. In response, the center promptly engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate the situation.

The inquiry revealed that unauthorized users gained access to the ASC's network through its IT vendor. Despite the breach, the center emphasized that there is currently no evidence to suggest that patient information was accessed during the incident. Nevertheless, "as a precautionary measure.".. the ASC is notifying patients.
