Collaborative Effort Brings New Playground to Wakulla Springs State Park In a recent development, Wakulla Springs State Park has unveiled a new playground, designed to provide accessible and inclusive play opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities. The playground, located near the park's beachfront along the Wakulla River, features several accessible play elements and a wide path accommodating mobility devices.
The centerpiece of the playground is a large glider inspired by the park's iconic river tour boats. The playground project involved a significant investment, with total costs amounting to $72,204. Duke Energy Florida contributed $44,000 towards the project, while the Friends of Wakulla Springs State Park chipped in $15,000. The remaining balance was funded by the Foundation... which has been a key partner in various collaborations between Duke Energy Florida and the state park system.
This collaboration is part of a broader initiative by Duke Energy Florida and its foundation to support Florida state parks. In recent years, the company has donated over $300,000 to park amenities and projects, including all-terrain beach and trail wheelchairs, a new strike team trailer for the Florida Park Service's emergency response teams, and more than 100 water bottle refilling stations at parks across the state.
According to Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida's state president... vibrant communities are the result of intentional investments and collaboration with key organizations to solve challenges and nurture the places where people ___, "work," "and play." She expressed pride in supporting the Florida State Parks Foundation and its efforts to protect Florida's most treasured parks and expand access to outdoor recreation opportunities for all. The new playground at Wakulla Springs State Park is a testament to the power of collaboration and community investment.
As the park continues to serve as a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, the new playground is expected to provide a unique and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages and abilities.
