Gatorland Orlando Has Announced The Birth Of A Rare White...

Gatorland Orlando has announced the birth of a rare white alligator, the first of its kind to be documented in the world. According to the park's Facebook post, the hatchling is a solid white leucistic alligator, which is a genetic condition that results in a lack of pigmentation in the animal's skin, scales, and eyes. This is the first time a solid white leucistic alligator has been born since a nest of such alligators was discovered in Louisiana about 36 years ago.

Park officials stated that only seven leucistic alligators are known to still survive in the world, and three of them are housed at Gatorland. Leucistic alligators differ from albino alligators in that they have bright blue eyes instead of pink eyes. The female baby alligator, along with her normal-colored brother, will go on public display early next year.

This rare birth is a significant event for the conservation of alligators and their genetic diversity. Gatorland Orlando is committed to protecting and preserving these magnificent creatures, and this new addition to their family is a test [+]
