New COVID variant fueling cases across Florida

A new COVID variant has made its way to Florida, pushing case numbers higher and leading health experts to say the most transmissible version yet is certain to infect even those who have had the virus.

For the week ending Jan. 5, Florida reported 31,633 new cases, according to state health data, which includes only cases confirmed by PCR tests. Most people use at-home tests. The week prior to Thanksgiving, Florida reported only 12,150 cases.

Florida court to weigh transportation mask mandate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Nine months after a Florida federal judge blocked a requirement that airplane passengers and other travelers wear masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, an appeals court next week will take up a Biden administration challenge to the ruling.

Brightline previews Central Florida airport station interiors

Brightline teased would-be passengers with a preview of its new Orlando station on Monday but said it still requires federal certifications before it can open its 170-mile extension from West Palm Beach.

Gas prices to drift lower but here's when they'll climb again

Gas prices are heading back down after surging 32 cents a gallon in late December. The downturn won't last forever, though.

The average per-gallon price for regular unleaded in Florida was $3.29, a two-cent drop over the weekend, travel club AAA reported in its weekly Gas Price Update.

Air travel across US thrown into chaos after FAA computer outage – Sun Sentinel

NEW YORK — The world's largest aircraft fleet was grounded for hours by a cascading outage in a government system that delayed or cancelled thousands of flights across the U.S. on Wednesday.
