Cold weather has caused many Floridians to hang up their flip-flops and put on actual shoes, which can only mean one thing: Christmas is coming.

The holiday season is always met with celebratory joy but also a bit of tension as parents scramble to get their Christmas shopping in order and figure out what to do with their kids over Christmas break.

When is Christmas break in Florida? In just two short weeks, according to the Florida Department of Education. Here's what to know.

Florida schools will release for Christmas break almost universally on Dec. 23 but when they return is a little more up in the air thanks to a slew of hurricanes that hit the Sunshine State this year. Here's a look by county:

Alachua : Dec. 23-Jan. 3. Due to the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, schools will be open on these pre-planned flex days: Dec. 20, Jan. 6, Feb. 14.

Volusia : Dec. 23-Jan. 6. "Instruction time lost due to Hurricanes Helene and Hurricane Milton will be made up through the adjustment of early release days and absorbed into the current schedule."
