
Toxicology results on 487 snakes tested by the Florida Department of Health found unhealthy mercury levels in its meat. The department established an advisory, "do not consume python," regardless of snake size, due to the risk of unhealthy mercury levels. A scientist irked by the advisory suggested making portion recommendations or specifying regions where mercury levels made it unsafe to eat animals caught there... similar to fish.
