Weekend things to do in South Florida: Sept. 9-Sept. 11

This is one of those not-summer-but-not-season-yet weekends when South Florida starts to turn, showing more color, like the leaves up north. There are interesting dining experiences, including Food in Motion in Flagler Village on Friday and the Burmese pop-up at Palm Beach Meats on Saturday.

Flagler Village picnic: The free monthly community picnic known as Food in Motion returns to Peter Feldman Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale's Flagler Village from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, with music, food trucks and a lineup of creative vendors.

7th Special Forces Group marks anniversary of 9/11 with memorial run

After Sept. 11, 2001, members of the 7th Group were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom for 20 years. And every year, soldiers, families and alumni of the 7th Group have held a 9/11 memorial run and service in their honor.

"We must remember the 9/11 generation that has shouldered the security of our nation. America's warrior class that for over 20 years sacrificed all in the name of freedom," said Dennis Castellanos, command chief warrant officer of the 7th Special Forces Group.
