TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A bill that would have repealed remaining bans on owning pit bulls and other dog breeds in Florida failed in the legislature.
While the bill would have allowed local governments and housing authorities to place certain restrictions or additional requirements for owners of dogs that have a history of biting or attacking people or animals, those restrictions or requirements couldn't be applied to an entire breed of dog.

Current standardized testing in Florida public schools will be replaced with assessments taken throughout the year to better gauge individual student progress under a new bill by signed by Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday.
The tests will be given at the beginning, middle and end of the school year so teachers can better assess how students are doing in English and math. DeSantis said the testing will take less time than the current Florida Standards Assessments, FSA.

Another member of the Joe Biden administration is raising concerns about Florida’s newly-passed Parental Rights in Education legislation, saying it could harm the youth it purports to protect.
The bill bans discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade and requires that discussion of such topics be age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate in all other grades.

Decrying a "lack of action," a group of Walt Disney Co. employees is calling for a series of walkouts over the next week to protest the company's response to a Florida bill that would restrict discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in classrooms.
Organizers are urging Disney workers to stage brief walkouts, starting today and over the next four work days, during scheduled break periods, culminating in a "full stage" walkout March 22, where employees will not work or attend meetings.
