On the football field, Roker was a ball-hawking safety, recording 54 tackles and seven interceptions. McKenzie Travis, a track athlete from Lely High School, made history this spring by becoming the eighth girl in state history to take the triple crown in the dash events. She swept the 100, 200, and 400 dash at the Class 1A state meet, securing three gold medals and cementing her status as one of the best athletes to ever step foot on the track in Southwest Florida.
Travis will continue her career at the University of South Carolina. The Lely girls' basketball team experienced a resurgence this season, thanks in part to the inspiration of two Ukrainian refugees, Sonia Kiritsa and Sasha Rubanova. The pair, who fled their home country following Russia's invasion two years ago, helped the team reach new heights.
Meanwhile... Tyre from Naples High School stole the show in the Class 3S-Region 4 final. With only time left for one play in the fourth quarter, he fielded a kickoff, faked a pitch, and sprinted up the middle of the field, scoring a touchdown and sending the Tigers to the Final Four. In a rare display of dedication, Lely's boys soccer coach, Schank, has been coaching the team for 30 seasons, dating back to his late teens.
This season, the team posted a 13-6-5 record and won a district championship and regional berth. Peyton, a student at Cypress Lake High School, has made a name for himself in Unified sports. He has participated in basketball, bowling, track, "and soccer.".. and even led his bowling team to a district championship.
