Coco Gauff has had an eventful last two months. In June, she lifted the Roland Garros trophy, beating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. In contrast, her Wimbledon run was cut short after an early first‑round exit.

Before next month's U.S. Open, Gauff needed a good reset to regain her focus, and she clearly found one, as shown by her recent uploads.

The World No. 2 found herself lost in Florida's nature and her photos have come out gorgeous.

She uploaded those on X with a caption saying, "Florida girl in her natural habitat 🧜🏾‍♀️🤍." Fans are absolutely loving the photos.

At the draw ceremony for the 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal, Gauff was confirmed as the No. 1 seed for the WTA event following Sabalenka's late withdrawal, guaranteeing her a first‑round bye in the 96‑player main draw.

Sole Searching In The Sunshine State: The Barefoot Laws And Legends Of Florida

The Sunshine State's carefree vibe is epitomized by its residents' propensity for going shoeless. In Florida's beach towns, it's not uncommon to see people strolling barefoot, their feet seemingly impervious to the scorching sand and sharp shells. This laid-back attitude has even spawned a colloquialism - "jiffy feet," "grocery store feet," or "Circle K feet," depending on the region - to describe the worn, weathered soles that come with a day spent outdoors sans shoes.

But when it comes to venturing into public spaces, Floridians might wonder: is it legal to drive or shop barefoot? The answer lies in the state's laws and common sense. According to a Tampa-based law firm, driving barefoot isn't necessarily against the law, but it can become an issue if it contributes to reckless behavior behind the wheel.

If a barefoot driver's foot slips off the brake pedal, "causing an accident.".. they could face charges of reckless or careless driving. As for entering grocery stores or other public establishments, "there's no specific law prohibiting barefoot entry." However... businesses may have their own rules and regulations regarding footwear.

The phenomenon of going barefoot in Florida has become an integral part of the state's culture, particularly in its beach towns. This carefree attitude towards footwear has been a longstanding tradition, with residents often walking and driving without shoes. The practice has even led to the creation of colloquial terms such as "jiffy feet," "grocery store feet," and "Circle K feet," which vary depending on the region.

Historically, the warm and sunny climate of Florida has contributed to the widespread acceptance of barefoot activities. The state's extensive coastline and numerous beaches have made it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, further solidifying the practice of going shoeless. Over time, this cultural norm has become an ingrained part of Florida's identity, "with many residents adopting it as a way of ___." In terms of achievements... Florida's laid-back attitude towards footwear has contributed to its reputation as a relaxed and welcoming state.

The practice has also become a topic of interest, with social media platforms like Facebook hosting discussions and threads about the various terms used to describe barefoot feet. While there are no specific laws prohibiting barefoot driving or entry into public establishments... individuals are still expected to exercise caution and adhere to common-sense rules to avoid accidents or injuries ← →

If you live in or near a Florida beach town, you likely walk around barefoot a little more than the average person. And you might even take the short drive home from the beach without shoes , too. Going shoeless is so common in the Sunshine State that some Floridians even have a weird slang term for what the bottoms of your feet look like after a long day spent outside without shoes on: jiffy feet , grocery store feet, Circle K feet, etc. The term you use depends on where in the state you live, according to a recent Facebook thread that called on Floridians to answer which term they use and where they grew up.

Florida Receives Exciting News About Pitching Staff Ace

Image More details: See here

The Florida Gators baseball team had a rollercoaster season in 2025. Starting as early-season favorites to make a run to the College World Series, that notion quickly disappeared, as Florida started SEC play a measly 1-11. However, Florida completed an incredible turnaround, led in part by right-handed pitcher Liam Peterson.

The Gators ' year ended in regional play, as they finished with a 39-22 record overall and a .500 winning percentage in the conference.

On Wednesday, Baseball America revealed 2026 MLB Draft class rankings, labeling Peterson, who is the ace of Florida's rotation, as one of the top prospects in the country.

Peterson was given the nod as the No. 1 pitcher, No. 2 college player and No. 5 overall prospect in the draft class, Florida announced via social media.

The 6-foot-5 righty from Palm Harbor, Florida, will be a junior next season, deeming him eligible for the draft for the first time since joining the Gators. In 2024, Peterson was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and had an even better year this past season.

The flamethrower made 16 appearances and 15 starts as a sophomore, going 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA. He struck out a team-high 96 batters in 69 1/3 innings with 32 walks.

He also held opposing hitters to a .250 batting average, which is the best mark during his time in Gainesville.

Peterson features a fastball in the mid-to-high 90s, a sharp-breaking slider, a high-80s changeup and a curveball that he rarely uses.

If he were to be drafted in the first round of the 2026 MLB Draft, Peterson would become the first Florida pitcher to go that high since Hurston Waldrep went to the Atlanta Braves with the 24th overall pick in 2023.

With his physical makeup and athletic tools, Peterson promises to be a big name for the Gators next season and one to look out for at the draft next summer.

Vero Beach Vice Mayor Defies Backlash, Vows To Continue Hosting Drag Events At Kilted Mermaid Bar

In the face of adversity, Vice Mayor Linda Moore --- resolute in her decision to continue hosting drag events at her popular bar, Kilted Mermaid, in Vero Beach. This determination comes on the heels of a recent backlash sparked by her "Pride Tea Dance" event in June, which drew criticism despite being billed as an "all ages welcome" gathering. According to Moore, the event was carefully structured to cater to a diverse audience, with an initial family-friendly segment followed by an adults-only portion. She emphasized that the performances were far from risqué, describing them as a comedic show featuring fake, theatrical elements.

In response, Moore has engaged an attorney to guide her through the investigation and advise on whether to comply with the subpoena.

More Parents Support Screen Time Limits For Kids, Study Shows As New Florida Law Takes Effect | FO...

Image Read more: Found here

As a new Florida law restricting the use of cellphones in schools takes effect, research shows many parents support limiting kids' screen time. FOX 13's Regina Gonzalez reports.

Additionally, 84% believe phones are causing real problems in schools, especially when it comes to distraction, anxiety, and even loneliness.

The survey also showed 56% of parents support either a ⁘bell-to-bell⁘ phone-free policy or a full ban on cellphones in schools.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed House Bill 1105, a broad education bill that took effect July 1, which includes a ban on cellphones during the entire school day for elementary and middle school students.

Critics, however, argued that students need to be able to quickly get in touch with their families in case of an emergency.

School districts are working to figure out how to enforce the new rules this coming school year ⁘ whether that means locking phones away, collecting them in cubbies, or creating new policies around technology usage in class.

Jake Clemente's Bullpen Breakout: A Key Factor In Florida Gators' 2025 Turnaround

Image

The Florida Gators baseball team experienced a remarkable turnaround during the 2025 season, transforming from a struggling squad to a postseason contender. A key factor in this resurgence was the strategic decision by head coach Kevin O'Sullivan to transition right-hander Jake Clemente from a weekend starter to a full-time closer. Clemente's impressive performance in his new role earned him an All-SEC Second Team selection.

However, this success came with a bittersweet twist, as Clemente has signed a contract with the Miami Marlins, forgoing his eligibility to return to the Gators. The Marlins, who selected Clemente in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft, agreed to a $500,000 contract, significantly exceeding the slot value for the No. 198 pick.

Clemente's transformation was nothing short of phenomenal. Initially struggling as a starter, he found his groove in the bullpen... surrendering just five earned runs in 31 innings while striking out 45 batters and logging seven saves. His arsenal, which includes a fastball touching 99 mph, "a wipeout slider," "and an impressive changeup.".. made him a formidable force on the mound.

The Florida Gators baseball team had one of the best turnarounds in the country during the 2025 season. The Gators were victorious just once in their first 12 SEC games before a miraculous reversal, finishing with a conference record of 15-15, resulting in a trip to the NCAA postseason. One of the biggest reasons head coach Kevin O'Sullivan and Florida were able to turn their season around was the move from weekend starter to full-time closer of right-hander Jake Clemente.

Florida's Bold Step: Can New Laws Really Tame The Mental Health And Addiction Crisis?

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has taken a significant step towards addressing mental health and addiction recovery in the state by signing two new bills into law. One of the bills, Senate Bill 1620, sets stricter guidelines for treatment plans and incorporates key recommendations from a state behavioral health commission.

This move is being welcomed by individuals like Sallette, a Jacksonville resident and founder of Sober Dadz, a peer support group for men in recovery. The new legislation comes with substantial state funding, including over $123. 9 million for behavioral health services, $194. 8 million from the national opioid settlement for addiction specialist training and prevention programs... and $31. 8 million for expanding the Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) Network. Sallette hopes that this law will provide more people with the tools and support they need to begin their recovery journey.

The Formation And Impact Of Sinkholes In Florida

Image

Florida's terrain is prone to a peculiar phenomenon, thanks to its foundation of limestone, a remarkably porous rock. This susceptibility allows water to infiltrate and erode the limestone layer, creating fissures that ultimately lead to ground collapse. Although sinkholes can occur anywhere in the state, Central Florida is particularly predisposed to their formation, earning it the moniker "Sinkhole Alley." This region spans from Hillsborough County, near Tampa, to Daytona, and passes through areas like Maitland and Winter Park, according to Dr. Manoj Chopra of the University of Central Florida. Experts at the University of Florida attribute the increasing frequency of sinkholes to factors such as climatic fluctuations and land utilization.

A notable example is the 300-foot-deep sinkhole that emerged beneath a Central Florida fertilizer plant in 2016... releasing millions of gallons of contaminated sludge into the state's primary drinking water aquifer. The Florida Geological Society categorizes the state into four distinct types of areas regarding sinkhole formation.

Interestingly, some Central Florida landmarks, "such as Orlando's Lake Eola and Winter Park's Lake Rose," "originated as sinkholes." For more information on this topic... visit WKMG for valuable insights and updates.

They're a relatively common staple of Florida, thanks to the fact that the state sits on a bedrock made up mainly of limestone. And because of how porous limestone is, water can seep in and eat away at this layer, forming cracks that eventually cause the ground itself to collapse.

FST Improv is Sarasota's original antidepressant. FST Improv is the place to go when you're looking for some fun, need reminding that everyone is wacky, or have nowhere else to go. Inspired by audience suggestions, FST Improv creates characters and sketches completely on the spot. No one – not even the performers themselves – knows what is going to happen next.

It is this element of the unknown that makes every FST Improv show unique, and what makes for some of the most exciting moments onstage. FST Improv performs in the Keating Theatre at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 18.

A nationwide demonstration, marking the fourth extensive rally of the year, has been declared by a collective of groups that spearheaded the No Kings protests in June. Interestingly, two of these protests transpired in Polk. The organizers drew inspiration from the influential social justice advocates of the past, who demonstrated the potency of unified action.

On July 17, exactly five years since the demise of Congressman John Lewis, communities nationwide will converge on streets, courthouses, and community hubs to perpetuate his crusade for fairness, suffrage rights, "and respect for all individuals." The event's website emphasizes that participants are expected to strive for peaceful resolution in the face of disagreement and to conduct themselves in a lawful manner.

The organizers advise against bringing arms to the protest... underscoring their commitment to a serene and respectful gathering. USA TODAY provided details on this topic.
