Florida's Eclectic 'The Event' Festival Combines Music, Art, And Nostalgia

Image

A stunning amont of festivities is set to converge on various locations in Florida on May 3, leaving festival enthusiasts with a dilemma. The region's peak Festival Day will pit devotees of shrimp, the arts, the 1990s, beer, whiskey, and history against one another, with some events spanning multiple days. Fortunately, multiple weekends in May will also offer a plethora of festivals, providing ample opportunities for attendees to indulge in a diverse array of activities.

One such event, taking place in Fernandina Beach, promises to be a veritable extravaganza. Dubbed "The event", it will feature a pageant, a parade, a 5K run, a beard contest, an ice cream-eating competition, fireworks, a pirate invasion, a shrimp-fleet blessing, and, of course, a performance by the renowned Swingin' Medallions. This is not a traditional festival in the classical sense... but rather a collection of approximately three dozen events united under a single banner, showcasing an eclectic mix of theater, comedy, classical music, storytelling, visual arts, chamber music, "jazz," "and dance." For those nostalgic for the radical decade of the 1990s... a separate celebration promises to be a thrilling experience.

If you are a serious fan of festivals, May 3 is going to be a problem for you. That's peak Festival Day in these parts of Florida, the day you'd have to choose between fests celebrating shrimp, the arts, the 1990s, beer, whiskey and history. The good news is that some of those fests run for more than one day. Even better news is that every other weekend in May has good festivals, too.
