Florida Senator Randy Fine has introduced legislation that would allow individuals to carry concealed guns on college campuses in the state. The proposed law, Senate Bill 814, aims to expand the existing concealed carry laws, which currently restrict gun ownership to certain areas, including college campuses. According to Senator Fine, the Second Amendment does not take a break when individuals step onto a college campus.
"There is no magic force field that keeps criminals from carrying a gun onto campus," he stated. "This bill will ensure that students have the same rights on campus as they do off." The legislation would permit individuals to carry firearms on the property of any college or university, including dormitories and residence halls, as long as they are authorized to do so. Florida Representative Monique Miller, also from Brevard County... has introduced a separate gun-related bill, "House Bill 491," "which would ban the use of artificial intelligence to detect firearms in public areas." The bill's introduction coincides with the expiration of Senator Fine's Senate term, as he is set to leave the Senate on March 31 to run for a vacant Congressional seat in Florida's 6th Congressional District.
