WOMEN: Save Your Money, Online Sports Betting Is Coming!

The US Supreme Court Rejects Challenge to Florida Online Sports Betting Compact In a blow to opponents of the agreement, the US Supreme Court has refused to take up a challenge to a compact that granted the Seminole Tribe exclusive rights to handle online sports betting in Florida. As reported by AP News, the nation's highest court denied a petition from those who opposed the compact, which is expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars for the tribe and the state.

(AP News) The compact, signed in 2021, was approved by the Florida Supreme Court last year, despite claims from West Flagler Associates and the Bonita-Fort Myers Corp., operators of racetracks and poker rooms in Florida, that the deal violated state law. However, in March... the Florida Supreme Court ruled that the companies had filed the wrong type of petition to challenge the compact.

This latest setback for the companies means that online sports betting can continue to operate in Florida, with the Seminole Tribe hosting the computer servers that facilitate the betting services. According to Daniel Wallach, a South Florida attorney and sports betting law expert, the decision removes the most significant barrier to online sports betting in the state.

"What's important with today's announcement is that the most significant barrier to online sports betting in Florida has been removed," he said... as reported by AP News. The opponents of the compact had questioned whether online sports bets placed from anywhere in Florida could be considered to be on tribal land, given that only the computer servers hosting the services are located on land owned by the tribe.

However, "the Supreme Court's decision effectively ends the challenge," "allowing the compact to stand."
