Recruiting watch: Columbia DB Amare Ferrell commits to Indiana football

Columbia defensive back Amare Ferrell announced his commitment Sunday night to play college football at Indiana, part of a flurry of four high-profile Northeast Florida commitments in a 30-hour span.

At 6-1, 192 pounds, the three-star defensive back — most often projected as a safety at the college level — is ranked as a top-40 prospect in the position in the 247Sports composite.

Meet the 40 Lee County Rotary South Scholar Athletes in 2022

For each of the past 36 years, the Rotary South Scholar Awards has honored 40 seniors nominated by Lee County high schools for their academic and athletic accomplishments.

The organization set a record in awarding scholarship money, awarding $29,000 to athletes from 20 high schools. Last year, it was $22,000.

Picture of Carlson Pickett 'fist bumping' toddler in stands goes viral amid USWNT debut

Carson Pickett, an American footballer who was born without a part of her left hand, created history on Tuesday as she became the first player with limb difference to play for the United States women's team.

Pickett first gained international attention in 2019 when a picture of her giving a fist bump to a kid with a similar limb difference went viral on social media. In the picture, Pickett and the young kid named Joseph Tidd were seen fist-bumping each other using their left forearm.
