The Florida Keys Celtic Festival, a vibrant celebration of Celtic heritage, recently descended upon Marathon Community Park, bringing with it a joyous cacophony of music, dance, and merriment. On January 10th and 11th, the park was abuzz with activity as festival-goers of all ages immersed themselves in the rich traditions of Celtic culture.
The festivities commenced on Friday, January 9th, with a musical kick-off event that wound its way through the Keys, starting at Dockside Boot Key Harbor at 5 p. m. and making its way to Keys Fisheries at 7 p. m. This ___ly procession set the tone for the weekend's events, which included an array of captivating performances by beloved musical acts such as Albannach, the Screaming Orphans, and Police Pipe and Drum of Florida. As attendees wandered through the festival grounds, they were treated to a diverse range of activities, including sheepherding demonstrations, medieval feats of strength, and the women's Highland Athletic Games competition.
The festival's interactive Try-It workshops proved to be a highlight, offering guests the opportunity to participate in dance lessons, Highland Games trials, Scots-Gaelic language workshops, didgeridoo construction, and watercolor painting.
