Florida State Parks Welcomes Shoal River Headwaters State Park

In a move that preserves natural beauty, Florida State Parks has introduced Shoal River Headwaters State Park. The park spans 2,480 acres, featuring rolling sandy hills, mesic flatwoods, and floodplain forests. Located near DeFuniak Springs, it offers hiking and wildlife viewing. The park's diverse landscape supports rare species and maintains wetland quality. As part of the Upper Shoal River Florida Forever project, it was acquired in collaboration with Trust for Public Land. State Rep. Shane G. Abbott expressed enthusiasm, stating that the park ensures future generations can enjoy Florida's natural beauty. According to USA TODAY, the park is open from 8 a. m. to sunset, with long-term recreation and land management plans in development.
