Florida Airports And Highways Brace For Holiday Travel Surge

Image

As the holiday season descends upon Florida, a staggering number of travelers are poised to inundate the state's airports and highways. According to AAA, a record 122 million people across the country are expected to embark on festive journeys, with 7. 5 million of them heading to Florida. This represents a notable increase of a quarter-million travelers compared to last year's holiday season.

At Miami International Airport (MIA), the influx of travelers is already being felt. A passenger, fresh from a Christmas cruise, was among those rushing to catch their flight back to Chicago. He arrived at the airport a leisurely five hours before his scheduled departure, wisely allowing for a buffer against the chaos that often accompanies holiday travel.

"I don't like rushing off the ship," he explained. "You know how crazy it is with Ubers here and what with eight ships docked today." MIA has taken steps to mitigate the anticipated congestion, unveiling a new parking garage just two days prior. The addition of 2,200 parking spots is expected to significantly alleviate the stress of searching for a parking spot, allowing travelers to focus on more pleasant aspects of their journey.

For this passenger, at least, the extra parking capacity was a welcome relief.

AAA is predicting historic levels of travel this holiday season , and here in Florida, millions are expected to either fly or drive this week.
