New Proposal Could Get Rid Of Florida Sales Tax For These Items

That proposal — Senate Bill 78 — was initially filed by state Sen. Rosalind Osgood (D-32) on Wednesday afternoon. Under this bill, a couple of home hardening products would be added to the list of goods that are exempt from the state's sales tax . Although the bill was filed this week, it will have to wait until the 2026 Florida Legislature to begin before it can receive further consideration.

And even if it's approved, the bill won't take effect until July 1, 2026. That being said, if the bill does manage to pass the Legislature and gets the governor's signature, these home-hardening products will join the list of other items that are already exempt from the sales tax. The budget also sets up a permanent back-to-school sales tax holiday that will take place throughout August each year.
