DJ Lagway, the highly touted Florida Gators quarterback, has had a rocky start to his sophomore season. Through two games, he ranks 73rd among FBS quarterbacks with a rating of 52. 1, according to the Detroit Free Press. His stats, 342 yards with 4 TD passes to 1 interception, are a far cry from his impressive freshman year, where he went 6-1 as a starter, passing for 1,915 yards with 12 TDs to nine interceptions.
Lagway's offseason was marred by injuries, including shoulder and core issues that prevented him from throwing in the spring, and a calf strain that limited his participation in fall drills. These setbacks may have contributed to his slow start, as evidenced by his performance against USF, where he went 23 of 33 for 222 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception.
Notably, he had several overthrows, including a critical third-and-8 pass play that could have clinched the game in regulation. Florida football coach Billy Napier attributes Lagway's struggles to getting back into a rhythm, citing that this was only his third week of practice.
