In the heart of downtown Boca Raton, a new hotel proposal has sparked both excitement and concern. The planned 12-story, 242-room Mizner Plaza Hotel would rise along Northeast Second Street, directly south of Mizner Park, replacing the city's iconic "pink plaza" and post office. According to the Sun Sentinel, this development would bring new shops and restaurants to the area, as well as a small green space, or "pocket park," a feature touted by planning lawyer Ele Zachariades as a hallmark of great cities.
The proposed hotel's location, nestled in the midst of a bustling downtown area, has raised eyebrows among some residents of the nearby luxury condo building, Tower 155. They worry that the hotel's proximity could obstruct their views and increase traffic in the area. In fact, city documents suggest that the hotel could generate approximately 1,400 new traffic trips to the area.
For residents like Oren, who moved to Tower 155 for its light, air, and sense of community, the prospect of a hotel looming large is unsettling. Boca Raton is no stranger to hotels, with nearly 20 already operating in the city, including the historic resort, The Boca Raton.
