As we wait for the next three-day weekend — not coming until Labor Day in September — you might want to start planning or thinking about something special to celebrate America's 250th anniversary next year.
America250 and its newly created Florida counterpart, America250FL , have websites up and running, showing events already planned before the nation's 250th birthday arrives July 4, 2026.
You may also see the holiday called the bisesquicentennial, the sestercentennial, America250 or the Quarter Millennium.
So the U.S. celebrated its 249th anniversary on July 4, 2025, and will celebrate the big 2-5-0 — 250 years!
— on July 4, 2026.
America250's mission is to celebrate and commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, according to its website.
"We aim to inspire our fellow Americans to reflect on our past, strengthen our love of country, and renew our commitment to the ideals of democracy through programs that educate, engage, and unite us as a nation."
The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission was established by Congress in 2016 to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
America250 is a nonprofit supporting organization and the official website of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission.
