A $92 million sports complex in Kings Park, New York, is on the verge of completion, with a Florida-based company set to manage the facility. DestinationKP Sports Park, as it has been named, will boast a range of amenities, including a 65,000-square-foot indoor recreational facility, seven outdoor multipurpose fields, a two-story concession building, and over 1,000 parking spaces.
According to officials, the complex will also feature 8,000 square feet of retail space, as well as commercial office space for medical services, including sports medicine and physical therapy. The facility is expected to be a hub for youth sports, with multiple leagues and tournaments already in talks to hold events there.
Tim O'Connell, the facility's general manager, has extensive experience in the youth sports sector... having held positions with organizations such as the Mineola chapter of the Police Activity League and the Catholic Youth Organization of Long Island. O'Connell previously served as a Nassau County deputy commissioner for parks, "recreation and museums." The Town of Smithtown awarded site plan approvals to the project in July 2015, "with several changes to the plans since then."
