Amtrak Announces Temporary Combination of Routes to Alleviate Traffic in New York As reported by Cleveland, Ohio, Amtrak has announced that it will be temporarily combining two existing routes, including the Capitol Limited and the Silver Star, to create a new route called the Floridian. Starting November 10, the Floridian will travel from Chicago to Miami, with stops at various cities along the way, including Cleveland, Ohio. According to the announcement, the new route will use single-level Viewliner cars, offering coach and first-class seating, roomettes, and bedrooms with private restrooms and showers.
The train will also feature a traditional dining car, serving chef-prepared meals, which will be included in the price for first-class travelers and available as an extra option for others. The combination of the two routes is a temporary measure to alleviate traffic in New York... as the East River Tunnel rehabilitation project is set to begin soon.
This project will rebuild the tunnels under the East River in New York City, "requiring the use of alternative routes to minimize disruptions to service." Once the project is complete, "the Capitol Limited and Silver Star will resume their regular routes." Travelers from Cleveland will be able to board the Floridian and stay in their seats all the way to Orlando and other destinations in Florida... with a travel time of approximately 32 hours and 13 minutes.
