As of June 2024, Florida has experienced an increase in mass shootings , resulting in the Sunshine State leading the country in such incidents. There have been at least 18 mass shooting incidents in Florida this year, which accounts for about 8% of the United States' total thus far.

To obtain one, residents must pass a training class from an independent instructor certified by the Massachusetts State Police, a safety course at a local law enforcement agency or a certified instructor who teaches the Basic Hunter Education course.
