Florida's Artist Walk Skate Park To Open For Public Use

The highly anticipated Artist Walk Skate Park in Florida is set to officially open for public use in the near future. On Tuesday night, the City Council voted to approve the Florida Department of Transportation lease on the six-acre park. The next step in the process is for Mayor Donna Deegan and FDOT to execute the lease, according to Daryl Joseph, director of the department of parks, recreation and community services.

The park's construction was a complex process, with the early stages beginning in 2017. The design team, CA Skateparks, joined the project in 2019. Zachary Wormhoudt, lead landscape architect and project manager of the design-build team at CA Skateparks, explained that the mission of the project was to build off an art walk foundation, creating a series of "rooms" that serve as public gathering spaces.

While the primary function of the park is skating... there are other areas designed for various activities to take place. The park features stages that are not only functional for skating but also exciting for spectators. Construction of the skate park took around eight months to complete, but other factors slowed down the process of opening the park.

Despite this, "local skaters have already begun using the park," "while others are eagerly awaiting its official opening." According to USA TODAY... the opening of the park is expected to bring a sense of excitement and community to the area.
