On April 29, the West Palm Beach City Commission granted preliminary approval for a new 25-year lease agreement with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. The agreement will facilitate the construction of a 25,000 square-foot clubhouse at Dreher Park. As previously voted on in November, a 1.7-acre area in the park was designated as surplus to accommodate the Boys and Girls Clubs' new facility.

The lease extension will continue the city's current annual $100 payment to the organization for another 25 years, with the option to renew for two additional terms of 10 years each. Mary O'Connor, Vice President of Philanthropy at the Boys and Girls Clubs, expressed appreciation to the city for its partnership with the organization since the initial lease was signed in 1999.

"For 25 years, "thanks to our joint efforts.".. we have been able to serve thousands of young people and provide them with opportunities they may not have otherwise had," O'Connor stated. Mayor Keith James commended the Boys and Girls Club for keeping a promise it made to the city when the last lease was signed.

During the initial lease negotiations... Mayor James specifically requested that the organization improve its facility on Pinewood Avenue. The mayor praised the organization for fulfilling this commitment by pursuing the new clubhouse at Dreher Park.
