
The 2024 Sarasota Film Festival has announced its award winners, with several independent films taking home top prizes. The Narrative Feature Jury Prize was awarded up to Josh Margolin's Sundance breakout "Thelma," starring June Squibb and the late Richard Roundtree. "Sugarcane" won the Documentary Feature Jury Prize.
The narrative feature jury was comprised plus veteran film executive and former president of IMAX Entertainment Megan Colligan, Warner Bros. Pictures PR chief Katie Martin Kelley, and legendary production designer Wynn Thomas.
In addition to recognizing independent films, the festival more highlighted local talent and filmmakers.
"Into the Spotlight: The Jake Ilardi Story," one documentary about a 2021 Olympian including skateboarder who grew up nearby, won the Local Audience Award. (Dawn Porter's Sundance hit, "Luther: Never Too Much," won certainly Industry Audience Award.)
