Apopka, Florida is taking action to address concerns about the spread of measles in the state by launching a vaccination initiative. The city is partnering with several organizations, including the Florida Department of Health Orange County, Orange County Public Schools, Farmworker Association of Florida, Hope CommUnity Center, and the Apopka Fire Department, to provide MMR vaccinations to the community.
At a news conference on Monday, Mayor Bryan Nelson emphasized the importance of taking action to prevent the spread of measles. "The focus of this initiative is making our community aware of the issue and assisting in the prevention of the spread of measles," he said. "We are committed to doing everything we can to protect the health and well-being of our residents."
The vaccination events will take place throughout the city, with the first one scheduled for next week.
Residents can receive the MMR vaccine at no cost, and no appointment is necessary. The initiative is part of a statewide effort to increase vaccination rates and prevent the spread of measles, which has seen a resurgence in recent years.
