Kwanzaa Events In Central Florida

Kwanzaa, a week-long celebration of African heritage and African-American culture, begins on December 26 and lasts until January 1. Each day of the holiday focuses on a particular moral, belief, or value, with a candle being lit to highlight the principle of that day. Families and the community gather during Kwanzaa to remember the past and celebrate African-American culture. While Kwanzaa is not considered a substitute for Christmas, many people celebrate both holidays.

On December 21, the Timucua Arts Foundation will host a celebration featuring moving poetry and music from Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, as well as compelling contemporary choral works that reflect on this time of darkness, renewal, and the light to come.

On December 26, the Equity Council Corp. will host its annual Kwanzaa Celebration at the Winter Park Community Center from 5-9 p.
