Florida aquarium returning Lolita the orca to the Salish Sea after 53 years in tank - Saanich News

An orca known as Lolita could be heading back to her home waters in the Pacific Northwest, ending more than 50 years of tank captivity, after a deal was struck between the Miami Seaquarium and advocates pushing for her release.

The aquarium and the group Friends of Lolita said in a statement Thursday the orca could be relocated to an open ocean sanctuary in her home waters in the next 18 to 24 months, although project donor Jim Irsay said at a news conference in Miami that it could be six to nine months.

Koreshan State Park Offers Unique Experience | | coastalbreezenews.com

There was a time not so long ago when women could not vote and did not have equal rights with men. As part of a volunteer event for Florida State Parks, I recently visited the Koreshan State Park, where I was stunned to learn about a community in the late 1800s where this was not the case.

The central tenets of the "Unity" were gender equality, celibacy, and immortality. They all shared a theory that the earth was hollow. The group's founder, Dr. Cyrus R. Teed, had a vision that God was both male and female. He also thought the wind told him the path to immortality was celibacy.
