Florida park welcomes baby albino alligator for 3rd year | wtsp.com

Wild Florida Airboats & Gator Park welcomed a rare baby albino alligator on Monday, July 25. The baby is only one of nine eggs laid this year by the world-famous albino gator parents, Snowflake and Blizzard.

This is the third consecutive year that albino gators have been born at Wild Florida. The park continues to be the only place where they have successfully bred albino alligators.

Lindsey R. Kelly: Manatee Sighting Network in need of volunteers

The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department has started a new volunteer citizen science program to document how manatees are using North Central Florida's rivers and springs.

Manatee populations are monitored during the winter season by different agencies, but the focus tends to be on areas that manatees use as primary warm-water sanctuaries. The springs of the Suwannee, Santa Fe and Ichetucknee rivers are considered secondary warm-water habitats.

School boards sued over gender identity, sexual orientation law | Palm Coast Observer

Parents, students and a non-profit organization have filed a federal lawsuit against four Florida school districts, challenging the constitutionality of a new state law that restricts instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation in classrooms.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in federal court in Orlando, seeks to block the school boards in Orange, Indian River, Duval and Palm Beach counties from carrying out the law (HB 1557), which passed during this year’s legislative session after fierce debate.
