$14K in scholarships awarded at Florida Classic event

Eleven students from various high schools and colleges are the recipients of scholarships totaling $14,000.

A grant was also awarded to the city of Orlando's My Brother's Keeper program to continue its efforts to assist young men of color.

Music, friends and a rooftop celebration in the name of education at the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts.

Orange County places new special event zone restrictions

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – In July, Florida sheriffs were granted a new tool to handle unlawful pop-up events that can disrupt traffic flows.

The law allows them to establish special event zone signage. Prior to the Florida Classic event in Orlando, workers placed orange barriers along West Colonial Drive in Orlando, where Orange County deputies installed special event zone signs near John Young Parkway.

Honda will end its sponsorship of the tournament played each year in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., after the 2023 Honda Classic, according to a story first reported by Golfweek, which cited multiple sources.

The work to acquire a new sponsor has begun, tournament director Andrew George told Golfweek. "We're going to get right to work on solidifying a place for 2024," George said. "We're not going to be without title, without an event going forward. The moment is going to continue."
