The Florida dolphin was found at Horseshoe Beach in Dixie County in March, according to UF. State and federal labs confirmed the bird flu infection and identified the same strain spreading through North America's wild birds and domestic poultry this year.

"While obviously the presence of (bird flu) is a concern, the key takeaway for us is that additional caution should be taken by those handling or encountering wild dolphins during rescue events or while performing necropsies," Walsh said.
