Three will compete to be Bratwurst Festival's next queen
The annual queen's scholarship pageant will begin immediately following the Thursday parade, at 8 p.m. on the Wyandot Mutual Insurance Stage on West Rensselaer Street. The princess and junior princess courts also will be crowned during the event.
This year, three young women will compete for the crown: Hannah Feldman, Emily Goldfuss and Abbigail Martin.
Tallahassee Film Festival showcases 50 films in two days
The Tallahassee Film Festival, which runs Sept. 3-4 at venues around town, was founded in 2007 with the support of the Knight Creative Communities Institute, a nonprofit that implements "sense of place" projects which expand and enhance the Tallahassee community.
Since then, the organization has developed into an international film festival that provides a space for artists to safely share their work and for Tallahassee to view groundbreaking films.

Hot-air balloons soar over Presque Isle to open 19th annual festival
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Skies were fair and winds calmed nicely Thursday evening in Presque Isle as pilots and their passengers lifted off in hot-air balloons.
The 19th annual Crown of Maine Balloon Fest began with its own take on a ribbon cutting at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds. With a brief shot of flame, pilot Mike Lavoie of West Ossipee, New Hampshire, burned the ribbon in half and the festival was on.
