Gov. DeSantis vetoes Florida bill that jeopardized solar net-metering

On April 27, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed House Bill 741 , which would have undercut Florida’s growing rooftop solar market by phasing down net metering and allowing utilities to charge potentially unlimited fees on thousands of solar customers in the state.

Solar advocates pushed back against the bill from the start, organizing protests at the state capitol and other efforts.

Disney Claims Florida Bill Is Illegal, Says There's "Nothing To Worry About" - ...

The statement, first reported by WESH 2, quotes the statute which says, in part, that the "State of Florida pledges…it will not limit or alter the rights of the District…until all such bonds together with interest thereon…are fully met and discharged."

The Reedy Creek Improvement Act essentially allows Walt Disney World to reside in Florida unregulated, acting as its own "government" in a way. The act involved creating a special taxing district that acts with the same authority as a county government.

Explainer: What does Georgia Parents' Bill of Rights do?

However, House Bill 1178 doesn't do much to empower the parents of public school children. The bill does little more than bring together existing facets of parental control that were already on the books elsewhere.

State Rep. Josh Bonner (R-Fayetteville) was the author of the bill. He says the intention behind the rehashing of these already-on-the-books provisions was to bring all of these laws into one place in Georgia Code.

Florida man says state should ban the Bible - Upworthy

There's a strange bit of hypocrisy going down in the state of Florida. During the COVID pandemic, it was a place where some protested lockdowns and mask mandates under the umbrella of personal freedom.

Last month, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that allows parents to recommend certain instructional materials be banned from the schools.
