More time sought in Florida sports betting fight - CBS Miami

TALLAHASSEE - As they wage a two-front fight against the Seminole Tribe offering online sports betting statewide, two pari-mutuel companies are seeking more time to make their case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The two cases involve different legal issues and different defendants, but the pari-mutuel companies are trying to use at least one of the challenges to block sports betting that was included in a 2021 gambling deal between the state and the tribe.

Gardner is a youth motivational speaker who was raised by his grand-aunt in Tampa, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He is also the husband of Georgia federal judge Leslie Abrams Gardner, according to WSB-TV .

A proposed bill in Florida, HB-395 , would punish cities for removing existing historical monuments and memorials, and would retroactively apply to removals that took place up to five years ago.

The proposal was introduced on Thursday by state Rep. Dean Black (R-Jacksonville), three years after a Confederate statue was removed from a public park in Jacksonville, which has a large Black population.

Franklin police officers were called out to the Marriott of Cool Springs around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday for reports of an "active shooter."

Wiggins left the hotel before officers arrived but was later found by police in a nearby subdivision.

Florida bill would ban driving in the left lane except for passing, emergency

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka, R-Fort Myers, filed a bill Thursday for the 2024 Legislative Session that would ban “furthermost left-hand lane driving” on certain roadways in several cases.

HB 317 would bar drivers from using the leftmost lane on a road with two or more lanes and a speed limit of at least 65 miles per hour. Exceptions include if the left-hand lane is a high-occupancy lane or an identified left-turn lane.
